a few months ago this guy wrote a letter to the White House asking them to plant garden on the property. Eleanor Roosevelt did this for the war effort. It was called a victory garden....see

I do like the old video it is actually helpful. But when the narrator says "smut", it's not that the corn is infected with porn. The term "smut" is the common nomenclature for fungus in that day.
